Katarina started skating ice at the age of five. As her natural talent began to show, she received an entry to the Karl-Marx-Stadt school that specializes in youngsters with sporty talent. This was where she was introduced to the coach of her choice, Jutta Muller. Witt placed second in the World Championships of Copenhagen in 1982. It was her first appearance. Her graceful style and elegance of Witt drew the attention of all and she has been a dominant figure skater ever since.
